LA Dodgers Welcomes Women in Sports and Media

Los Angeles, Ca (September 18, 2024)- At the heart of Dodger Stadium, a landmark of iconic achievements, the LA Dodgers Women’s Conference brought together trailblazing women from across sports and media. Our very own Janay Lata, Director of the To’omalatai Family Foundation (TFF), attended this incredible event, focused on empowering women and redefining their role in these industries.

The conference featured powerhouse keynote speakers, including Amy Howe, CEO of Fanduel, and Olympic hurdler Jasmine Jones, who shared invaluable insights on how women are thriving and breaking barriers.

Janay had the privilege of sitting front and center during the “Game Makers: Women Who Are Show Makers in Entertainment and Sports” panel, which highlighted inspiring leaders, including:

  • Jennifer Bryson – SVP of Special Events, Levy

  • Julie Huntsinger – Executive Director, Telluride Film Festival

  • Rhea Roberts – VP of Events & Community, AEG/Goldenvoice

  • Lauren Fritts – SVP of Global Brand & Experiential Marketing, MLB

Reflecting on the experience, Janay shared:

"It felt so empowering to stand up in that room and introduce myself as a proud Samoan woman. There aren't too many Pasifika women in these spaces, so being a representative of our NHPI community meant everything to me."

The conference concluded with a powerful call to action from Cookie Johnson, author, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Her message resonated deeply with attendees: stand confident, remember you belong, and recognize the unique contributions women bring to sports and entertainment

At TFF, we believe the future of sports and media will be brighter when it reflects the rich diversity of the world we live in. As Janay highlighted:

"Our hope for TFF is to educate and encourage young Pasifika girls that there are so many different career paths in sports and media. The industry is in need of them and we want to provide them with the tools and resources to get them there."

TFF remains deeply committed to increasing the presence of women and Pacific Islanders in the sports and media industries. Through our programs like Oceania initiatives, community engagement, internships, and more, we aim to create pathways for the next generation of leaders to thrive.

Together, we can foster a future where Pasifika women stand tall, share their stories, and shape the sports and media industries in ways the world has never seen.
